From match bonuses to future opportunities: the story of Casa Hogar
Casa Hogar was founded during the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. The dire poverty and the large number of street children in Toluca made a deep impression on the Red Devils, who decided to donate part of their match bonuses to a local project. Thanks to the collaboration with the Martinez family, owners of Hotel Del Rey Inn where the Belgian delegation was staying, this initiative became a reality.
For years, the Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) raised funds to support the daily operation of Casa Hogar. In 2015, former association president Michel D'Hooghe gave this a new impulse by founding the non-profit New Casa Hogar.
With the support of an extensive network and prominent figures from the world of sports and business, even more funds have since been raised. This is sorely needed, because the issue of orphaned and street children in Mexico remains urgent. Casa Hogar therefore has the ambition to keep growing. Reaching more children, organising more activities, creating more opportunities – that is the goal for the future.

Why we do it
Why?
Nutrition, upbringing and a warm nest are essential for the development of every child. These are basic rights that no one should be deprived of. Not here, and not in South America either. Our commitment to Casa Hogar has already made the difference hundreds of times between a life on the margins and a harmonious integration into society.
How?
The leaders and educators of Casa Hogar offer disadvantaged Mexican street children the prospect of a better future. Education and training are crucial here. Casa Hogar gives them the warmth of a family and the freedom to fully develop themselves. You too can contribute, as the organisation runs on donations and volunteers.
Result?
Since 1986, hundreds of Mexican children have learned to read, write or learn a trade through Casa Hogar. Many children have since built a valuable life and started a happy family. The results prove that Casa Hogar is still needed. With your support, we continue to shelter and guide young people.
